What Elders do at Rock bridge

Elders at Rock Bridge Community Church are the leading servants in the Church. They work together to fulfill three main areas of responsibility:

  • To guard the Church's doctrine, unity, and overall mission.
  • To shepherd the Church's membership through prayer, care, accountability, and discipline.
  • To discern God's will for the Church's overall direction.

Additionally, Elders also provide accountability for the Lead Pastor who is also a permanent member of the Elders by virtue of his position.  The Elders may not approve the final church budget, call a new Lead Pastor, or appoint new Elders. All of those actions must be approved by a vote of the church membership.  Elders serve three-year terms and may serve two terms consecutively. The total number of Elders may vary between 9-15 men.

Elder Selection Process

  1. Nominations received from church members.
  2. Elder Selection Team reviews nominees based qualifications listed in Titus 1:5-9, their church involvement, and their giving (all elders are expected to tithe to RBCC).
  3. Qualified elder nominees are contacted to determine their willingness to be considered and potentially serve as an Elder.
  4. Qualified and willing nominees complete a written questionnaire, followed by an in-person interview.
  5. Final list of nominees is presented to the full church membership for approval and affirmation.
