Mission Facts
Definitions:
- People Group: a large grouping of individuals who have a common affinity with one another. A people group is the largest group within which the Gospel can spread as a church planting movement without encountering barriers of understanding or acceptance. There are 16,351 people groups in the world.
- Unreached People Group: the group does not contain a local community of evangelical Christians with adequate numbers (<2%) and resources to spread the Gospel
- Unengaged People Group: no church or organization is actively working within that people group to spread the Gospel
- 10/40 Window: the rectangular area of North Africa, the Middle East and Asia approximately between 10 degrees north and 40 degrees north latitude. This area contains the most unreached and unengaged people groups, the most resistance to Christianity, and the majority of the world’s poor.
Lostness:
- 1.7 billion have little or no access to the Gospel
- Over 4700 people groups are not engaged with the Gospel
- 355 million in South America do not know Christ
- 89% of North African and the Middle Eastern people groups are unreached
- 311 people groups in India have no known evangelical believers
Poverty:
- Over 1 billion people live on less than $1 per day
- Nearly 2 billion more people live on less than $2 per day
- >26,000 children die every day of starvation or preventable diseases
- 2.2 million people die every year from lack of clean water
- Approximately 1 billion people go hungry on a daily basis
